November Local 2195 Meeting

UAW Local 2195 November Meeting
Monday 11:00 am
American Legion Post 15
Decatur, AL
I hope this notification finds everyone doing well, here it is November, 2024 we are almost at the end of another year; time does fly. The older we get it the faster it moves.
The November Meeting; is an important meeting the UAW TRUST will be at the meeting to explain all the new changes in our healthcare coverage for the year 2025.
All of the providers of our health care are scheduled to accompany the Trust for you to talk with regarding any issue you may have.
At this meeting, we will be having our, Thanksgiving/Christmas luncheon. The Retiree Chapter will be furnishing the meat and bread for the luncheon. We will also provide tea, coffee, and water.
We ask that you bring a covered dish of your choice or a dessert. We have received a lot of favorable comments about how good our meals have been. I think everyone who helps make this happen. Let us keep up this nice tradition.
The issue of the $500. bonus is still an issue, as we have reported part of the issue has been settled. When a person retired they had an opportunity to check a box that indicated their desire to stay with General Motors up on the retirement. This was not available for all who retired from Delphi and part of this remains an unanswered question. The issue of those who did in-fact check the box are being scheduled for payment.
The normal payments are scheduled in December of each year as provided in the 2023 UAW/GM National Contract. The best information I have is those who have been approved for the payments, will receive any back payment with this year's annual payment. Before the meeting, I will get an update on the issue and will report at the meeting. If your pension is by direct deposit, which it should be if possible, you will need to check your December pension payment.
We have had a lot of support for our Retiree Chapter and our meetings from Lynn Layton Chevrolet of Decatur. Lynn and Jeff have consistently provided funds for our door prize drawings. I just wanted to acknowledge their continued support: Should you need a new or used vehicle or repairs they would be happy to have the opportunity to provide you or your family that service.
This is not a request to provide a service over and above other GM Dealers that you might enjoy dealing with. In any circumstance, please continue to support the dealers that sell the products that protect our pension and former co-workers’ jobs.
This Tuesday is election day, I hope everyone makes it a point to vote. I hope everyone remembers those who have come to our aid during our time of need. We have been overcome a lot since Delphi filed for bankruptcy. General Motors followed in 2009 after a devastating collapse in the economy. The democrats led the path with structure bankruptcy that saved our healthcare and protected our pension. All Republicans voted against the Bridgeloan which provided the pathway for General Motors to rebound and salvage millions of American jobs. That included help for all General Motors/Delphi retirees.
The Republicans continue to say they want to repeal the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT this alone could have major implications on our healthcare benefits.
To once again quote, Walter P. Reuther our late great President of the UAW,
"The ballot box and bread box are on and the same."
I believe it is good to go home with the person that brought you to the dance.
God protect and preserve our democracy.
In Solidarity
Chuck McDonald, Chairman
