Q1. What is the December lump sum payment?

A. GM and the UAW agreed (via a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) dated 9-5-2024) to pay a $500 lump sum payment to eligible Delphi “Check the Box” retirees or their eligible surviving spouse. The payments would be made annually in December beginning in 2023 (first payment to be paid in 2024) and ending in 2027. This payment is not eligible for rollover.

Q2. Who is eligible to receive the December lump sum payment?

A. In accordance with the MOU, an eligible retiree who retired under the terms of the 2006 UAW-GM-Delphi Special Attrition Program dated March 22, 2006, or Special Attrition Program-Transformation UAW-Delphi Plants, dated June 22, 2007. The Delphi “Check the Box” retiree means a former employee of Delphi Corporation who was allowed to return to GM for purposes of retirement under the terms of the UAW-GM-Delphi Benefit Plan Treatment, dated September 30, 1999 and who is receiving retirement payments under the terms of the Delphi Hourly-Rate Employee Pension Plan.

Q3. When will the December lump sum payment be made?

A. The $500 lump sum payments for 2023 & 2024 will be made in December 2024 as a one-time payment for $1000.00. Future annual payments for $500 will be issued no later than December 31st, provided there are no special circumstances (e.g., alternate payee (AP) on your record due to a qualified domestic relations order (QDRO)). In case of a QDRO, the GM Benefits & Services Center (“Center”) must review the terms of the QDRO on file to determine if the AP is entitled to a portion of the December lump sum payment. If your record requires review, your payment may be delayed.

Q4. How will the December lump sum payment be made?

A. The payment will be made based on your current monthly benefit election (i.e., EFT or check) on file with the GM Benefits & Service Center.

Q5. Will the December lump sum payment be subject to taxes?

A. Yes, the payment is considered taxable income and will be subject to taxes and included in your 1099R tax statement.

Q6. What happens if I do not receive the lump sum payment?

A. If you do not receive a payment, please contact the GM Benefits & Service Center at 1-800-489-4646, to check your eligibility, understand the reason for delay, or non-payment.

Q7. I do not have a spouse; will my dependent be eligible to receive the lump sum payment if I die prior to receiving the payment?

A. No, dependents are not eligible for this payment.

Q8. If I am receiving a portion of my pension/or survivor benefit from GM and a Divestiture, am I eligible for the December lump sum payment (excluding Delphi)?

A. Yes, provided you meet retirement eligibility you will receive the $500 December lump sum payment.
