By Local 2195 Communications Specialist John Davis

Local 2195 retirees collected $600 for the victims of Hurricane Harvey at their meeting on September 11, 2017. At this month’s meeting those in attendance took a collection for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. “We always want to help, and the victims of Hurricane Harvey are definitely in a situation where they need our help,” states Local 2195 Retiree Chair Chuck McDonald. “The UAW has a long history of coming to the aid of those in need and this was no different.”

Hurricane Harvey ravaged the Texas coast on August 25, 2017, killing 70 people, causing $180 billion in damage and affected over 13 million people in the six day storm. To date over 500,000 people have registered for assistance, with over 200,000 homes being damaged and more than 12,700 destroyed.

“Every little bit helps and I am proud of the way our retirees dug deep. The labor movement is about collectively raising everyone up and we are proud to do our part to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey,” Chuck McDonald adds.
